Dr. Joseph Merriman has more than 15 years of experience in program management and molecular biology, specializing in the development of innovative live biotherapeutics to improve human health. As a consultant at LBG, Dr. Merriman excels at providing clients comprehensive program support, identifying strategic investment opportunities, and serving as a subject matter expert (SME) in microbiome sciences and therapies to inform program development and identify key metrics needed for cGMP production of a microbial LBPs.
As a Program Manager, Dr. Merriman has led multidisciplinary teams of scientists and regulatory experts in a start-up like environment to advance cutting-edge translational programs in oncology, infectious disease, and GI disorders. Dr. Merriman has extensive experience serving as a Quality Assurance and scientific leader with expertise in designing and implementing a robust electronic Quality Management Systems (QMS), cGMP suite qualification and novel process design to create microbiome LBPs in compliance with FDA and ICH (LBP, MVGT, ICH 7&8) guidelines, and managing large (>$20million dollars) programs with external stakeholders such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Merriman brings broad experience, and science focused program management, to help clients bring high-risk programs from discovery to early clinical trials in budget and on time.
Dr. Merriman earned his BSc in Microbiology from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Iowa.
